Timothy Michael Linton (born June 25, 1969), better known by his stage name Zim Zum, was the guitarist for Marilyn Manson from 1996 to 1998.

Stage name

Zim Zum was the first member of Marilyn Manson whose stage name was not deviated from the female celebrity/serial killer format. It is derived from Jewish mystical text. "Tzim-Tzum," a Hebrew word meaning "contraction" or "constriction," is a space created by God which He would not inhabit.

Career

Marilyn Manson

Zim was the guitarist for Chicago hard rock band Life, Sex & Death in the early 1990's. He was one of about 150 guitarists to submit videotapes for Marilyn Manson after the departure of Daisy Berkowitz from the band. Zim was one of only 15 application who received a call to audition and ultimately won the slot.

He is credited on one song on Antichrist Superstar, as live guitarist on the album opener, "Irresponsible Hate Anthem," and served as the guitar player on the Dead to the World Tour. He also co-wrote and performed "The Suck For Your Solution," which appeared on the soundtrack of the movie Howard Stern: Private Parts.

He received performance credits on nine of the fourteen tracks on Mechanical Animals and co-wrote eight, but, similarly to his predecessor, left the band before the subsequent tour. He was replaced by John 5.

The reason for Zim's departure is unclear. He has stated that he quit Marilyn Manson to pursue solo interests, but Manson himself has claimed he was fired for not attending band practice.

Despite parting ways with Manson, he continues to perform under the moniker Zim Zum, given to him when he joined the band.

Later work and projects

After splitting ways with Marilyn Manson, Zim went on to record and remix acts as diverse as Korn and Cher.

More recently, Zim has been busy with two projects, Pleistoscene and The Pop Culture Suicides.
