New Tour pages Sample page made[edit]

I made a new sample page for individual Tour dates: [[Sample_Pages:Tour_dates]]. This page can be found from the main page/Interact/help desk/Marilyn Manson Wiki category page or on special pages/Categories/Sample pages.

Updated the sample tour page: [[Sample_Pages:Tour_dates]]. Made a minor change to the video titles to add intro in small italicized and quote marks around the song titles. Also note if you use Twiggy|Twiggy Ramirez for example on line up it will take the user directly to the page Twiggy bypassing the redirected page entirely Sumer (talk) 07:27, 13 May 2014 (CEST)

if you want all reflists to be smaller, then we'd might change the template rather than enclose the template usage into small-tags always. this would mean that the style will change for every page at MW (scarshock (talk) 09:27, 14 May 2014 (CEST))

That would relieve a lot of extra typing. From what I've seen the Wiki way is to have references in small type. I don't think there'd be any reason not to do that, thanks! Sumer (talk) 17:43, 14 May 2014 (CEST)

done. please use {{References}} instead of no longer existing {{reflist}}. also, now the <small> tag is no longer necessary as well, because the {{References}} uses relative font size (as well as the <small> does) and in most cases the template rendering gives 10 pixels (scarshock (talk) 12:29, 15 May 2014 (CEST))

Well done and much appreciated! I will start using. I believe the new templates will make the site a lighter leaner one as far as code goes and hope that saves on space, though not really sure if that matters, but it makes it look cleaner. I was wondering about the main tour page date tables. I did a different one for Interviews Archives. It's a cleaner table without it making every third line a heavy one. But a lot of code. We are using a basic table code and believe there's new ways that wikipedia are using themselves: wikipedia tables. Also please note the table code makes it auto adjust to always be 90% smaller than the background page. But this sounds like a project to look at after tour date pages are done being reformatted. please note that this template supports multi-column as the {{reflist}} did: {{References|2}}. for example, you can compare the old references and the new references with 2 columns. also, there are many places where <references/> is used. searching for this tag doesn't give good results, because the wiki omits non-letter and non-digit characters for the search, and i just changed the tag to the template in some places only. but anyway, it's not a stopper. another thing: i guess i will also try to implement the tour dates template to avoid very heavy wiki markup (i guess it will consist of two templates, but i'm not sure, since i'm not an expert in the wiki language/templates). along with this rework i'm going to rework {{Country}} too to make it simpler and probably auto-generated for the tour pages (something like {{Flag|de}}: 1) the country template was supposed to be used for a little another purposes but serves the flag images only; 2) it promotes unnecessary "domain" attribute). anyway, i have to check it (scarshock (talk) 20:34, 15 May 2014 (CEST))

i've also noticed the gallery section appeared in the sample page. that code also uses the some extra markup. i would also integrate the gallery to the templates set and define the common style, so there could be no need to specify the at-page location (centering), thumbnail size, number of thumbs per row and so forth. so currently i have idea of implementing {{PhotoGallery}} / {{TourDates}} (the most complicated one), and re-implementing the {{Flag}} template (scarshock (talk) 08:50, 16 May 2014 (CEST))

It should be noted there is also the:<ref name="LHROOHbk">{{cite book |last1=Manson |first1=Marilyn |last2=Strauss |first2=Neil |title=[[The Long Hard Road Out of Hell]] |date=1998-02-14 |publisher=ReganBooks |isbn=0-06-098746-4 |page=171}}</ref> which is more the proper cite reference especially for when taking from a publication, (book or magazine). Changes to the videos gallery template[edit]

as FYI, i've made some changes to the {{YoutubeVideos}}:

• i've fixed a bug that required an extra "|" character at the template end "}}"
• the video gallery now supports Vimeo provider (and able to support more). please see this permalink
• i've renamed YoutubeVideos to Videos because now it's not just Youtube

the only thing that is left to the video gallery template is mandatory video title. if no video is specified - then the gallery is rendered wrong. i hope to fix it asap (scarshock (talk) 20:15, 18 May 2014 (CEST))

Vimeo, but it's extensible, and probably it will be enhanced later for more sources. in templates, prefix the video ID with vimeo:. regarding the photo gallery: the gallery is supposed to be centered always no matter how many photos are specified. the current settings are hardcoded: 5 pics per row, 170x120 px for a thumbnail. hope there are no issues so far, because templates are madness even for simple things (scarshock (talk) 07:07, 19 May 2014 (CEST))

cquote template[edit]

hi Sumer! as we use the {{cquote}} template, we can also use the parameters it accepts to prevent extra formatting and keep the formatting consistent. please take a look at this change, where you can see that both author and source are used. i know it's not obvious if templates can accept extra arguments, but you can test it with a quick and dirty way:

• go to the template edit page
• press Ctrl+F (at least for Windows) and search for three left braces: {{{

as your search results will be highlighted, you'll see the parameters it can accept. for the {{cquote}}, in order of occurrance, they are:

1. bgcolor - quote background color, not necessary in most cases (i even personally assume this parameter harmful)
2. wide - width of the quote box. probably useful for tables when accurate table column widths are required
3. 1 - in MediaWiki there are also anonymous parameters that are accepted via numbers. this is actually the quote text
4. author - the author of the quote
5. source - the source of the quote
