"Thingmaker" is the fourth track on the 1992 release The Family Jams. The song was inspired by a man referred to in The Long Hard Road Out of Hell as Carl, who intentionally looked and acted like Manson, used the image of a gnarled, twisted tree that Manson had created in a poster for another local band; and how Manson was sick of his stealing from him. Manson's then-girlfriend, referred to as Teresa, was also implied to have been having an affair with Carl.
Select lines of lyrics were later reworked for "Mutilation Is the Most Sincere Form of Flattery", a song from the band's 2007 album Eat Me, Drink Me.
