Versions

Lyrics

The first version ever recorded featured the following lyrics:

I'm being pushed like a blow up doll
Sell soul fuck with every call
Cribs become abortions at the shopping mall
You bet your answers from the eight ball

Better, better, better, better, better not tell you
Maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe next time
Tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me, can't tell you
Maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe next time

   I don't know wanna, I don't know wanna, I don't know wanna tell you
   I don't know wanna, I don't know wanna, I don't know wanna tell you
   I don't know wanna, I don't know wanna, I don't know wanna tell you
   I don't know wanna, I don't know wanna, I don't know wanna tell you

Look at me, lie to me
You make it all so clear
   Outlook is not so good
   What I wanna hear

   With eyes hazy
Pick my future I'm too lazy
Always got the science fiction mentality
Coldest foam static-gobble talking to me

Who with the need there comes the degrilled greed
Get on the floor pointing down on our feet
Maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe next time
Tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me, can't tell you

   I don't know wanna, I don't know wanna, I don't know wanna tell you
   I don't know wanna, I don't know wanna, I don't know wanna tell you
   I don't know wanna, I don't know wanna, I don't know wanna tell you
   I don't know wanna, I don't know wanna, I don't know wanna tell you

Look at me, lie to me
You make it all so clear
   Outlook is not so good
   What I wanna hear

Look at me, lie to me
You make it all so clear
   Outlook is not so good
   What I wanna hear

   Eight ball!
   Eight ball!
   Eight ball!
   Eight ball!

Look at me, lie to me
You make it all so clear
   Outlook is not so good
   What I wanna hear

(Oh no no, oh no no)
Better, better, better, better, better not tell you
Maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe next time
Tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me, can't tell you
Maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe next time

   Eight ball!

Look at me, lie to me
You make it all so clear
   Outlook is not so good
   What I wanna hear

Look at me, lie to me
You make it all so clear
   Outlook is not so good
   What I wanna hear

The Portrait Sessions version has the following lyrics:

Being pushed like a blow up doll
Sell soul fuck with every call
Cribs become abortions at the shopping mall
You bet your answers from the eight the eight ball

Better, better, better, better, better not tell you
Maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe next time

You make it all so clear

   With eyes hazy
Pick my future I'm too lazy
Always got the science fiction mentality
It's got the coldest foam static-gobble talking to me

With the need there comes the degrilled greed
Even on the floor pointing down on our feet
Maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe next time
Shake it, shake it, shake it, shake it, eight ball!

   Shake it shake it!
   Shake it shake it!
   Shake it shake it!

   Outlook not good
   What I wanna hear
Look at me lie to me
You make it all so clear

   Outlook not good
   What I wanna hear
Look at me lie to me
You make it all so clear

   Eight ball!
   Shake it shake it!
   Shake it shake it!
   Shake it shake it!

   Outlook not good
   What I wanna hear
Look at me lie to me
You make it all so clear

Better, better, better, better, better not tell you
Maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe next time
Tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me, I can't tell you
Maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe next time!
   Outlook not good
   What I wanna hear
Look at me lie to me
You make it all so clear
   Outlook not good
   What I wanna hear
Look at me lie to me
You make it all so clear

Trivia

  • One small snippet of the lyrics ("better, better, better, better not tell") was re-used in "Irresponsible Hate Anthem" several years later.
