The cover for Heart-Shaped Glasses

"Heart-Shaped Glasses (When The Heart Guides The Hand)" is the sixth track on the 2007 release Eat Me, Drink Me.

RockMag describes it as "a compulsive, hypnotic and almost militaristic rhythm balances out the tempo. One thinks of the sound of Walk In Line by Joy Division transported to the 21st century and boosted by a demonic sound. Some synths are subtlety placed in the song, recalling the 80’s. The song is ultra-repetitive and puts one in mind of both Violent New Breed and Shotgun Messiah (the latter Tim Skold is an ex-member of). The bassist asserts his domination over the composition and mixes it in with undeniable talent against the desperate voice of the God of Fuck. Towards the end of the song a broken toy box precipitates the songs and hurls the listener into the abyss. When The Heart Guides The Hand will be the future genocide, ready to tear into goth club dance floors in the near future." It has a running time of 5:00.

Trivia

According to Sean Beavan Manson initially wanted Putting Holes in Happiness to be the first single though the record company decided that Heart-Shaped Glasses was a more natural choice due to it's radio friendly nature. It is likely that Manson's choice will see release as the second single later in 2007.

Manson wrote Heart-Shaped Glasses after 19-year old girlfriend Evan Rachel Wood came to his house wearing heart-shaped glasses like Sue Lyon in the Stanley Kubrick version of Lolita.

Lyrics

Offical, from Marilyn Manson's website:

    She reminds me of
    The one in school
    When I was cutting
    She was dressed in white
And I couldn't take my eyes off her
But that's not what I took off that night

And she will never cover up What we did With a dress No She said "Kiss me, it will heal but it won't forget" "Kiss me, it will heal but it won't forget"
And I don't mind you Keeping me On pins and needles If I could stick to you And you could Stick me too
Don't break, don’t break My heart And I won't break your Heart-shaped glasses Little girl, little girl You should close your eyes That blue is getting me high Making me low
She reminds of the one I knew That cut up the negatives Of my life I couldn’t to take my hands off her She wouldn't let me be Anywhere but inside
And I don't mind you Keeping me On pins and needles If I could stick to you And you could Stick me too
Just Don't break, don’t break My heart And I won't break your Heart-shaped glasses Little girl, little girl You should close your eyes That blue is getting me high Making me low
