As the band gained notoriety after dropping the "Spooky Kids" title in 1992, Gein's personality was becoming more chaotic through extensive drug use. The band signed a record deal and began writing and recording their first studio album [[Portrait of an American Family]], for which he wrote 7 songs and played all bass. Despite this, Gein was fired from the band after a heroin overdose that landed him in the hospital in December of 1993. Gein would be replaced by Jeordie White, now known as [[Twiggy Ramirez]], of Miami death metal band [[Amboog-a-Lard]] who's look was influenced by a combination of, his then-girlfriend, [[Jessicka]] and Gein himself. Gein would later appear in the unauthorized documentary, [[Demystifying the Devil]] in which he set the record straight about his departure from the band.
