Outside of rock groups, Sablan works alone on the "punk-experimental-blues" effort Birthday Twin, which he describes as "born out of all kinds of music [...] I record whatever I feel like with the emphasis being on film score and live mood creating." Groups Sablan has been influenced by include Morricone, Spacemen 3, Mogwai, NEU!, David Axelrod, Primal Scream, Harry Partch, Terry Riley, [[Slayer]], Silver Apples, UNKLE, Bert Jansch, Bad Brains, Iggy Pop, CAN and Sonic Youth.
