The singer also referred to the album as "very guitar-oriented and very melodic", and as featuring "various unconventional forms of percussion". On February 26, 2007, MarilynManson.com revealed the opinion of ''Rolling Stone'' upon first hearing the album as being:

The S.S. joined Manson in his rec room where we worked our way down the belly of a bottle of German absinthe and were blown away as Manson debuted his new album, Eat Me, Drink Me. The key cut is "If I Was Your Vampire," a six-minute epic with the lyric "The hole is where the heart is." If anyone thought Manson was down for the count, think again."''

Since then Manson has appeared in ''Rolling Stone'' three times - the March article '[[Interview:2007/03/22_Rolling_Stone|Manson's Dark Return]]', a further paragraph from the Smoking Section and a mention in the 50 Albums to Look Forward to This Summer issue. Other publications to include original content with Manson are the April issue of ''Rock Sound'', the May issue of ''Revolver'' and an interview in French newspaper ''La Parisein''.

To promote the album Manson has traveled to France, England and Germany where he has held both press conferences and listening parties. Similar listening parties for journalists and fan club administrators have taken and are planned to take place in other European countries and America. Measures taken to prevent an unauthorized recording or copy of the album leaking have included bag searching and the prohibition of recording devices and mobile phones.

Manson began his singing on the album in November 2005 but was focused on his film ''[[Phantasmagoria: The Visions of Lewis Carroll|Phantasmagoria]]'', the process of opening an art gallery and personal troubles relating to his marriage. It was after opening the gallery that Manson really began his contribution as a singer by working out melodies and structures around Skold's already existing compositions, writing lyrics quickly and usually recording on the same day. One result of this is that the album features six guitar solos from Tim Skold and many other guitar while bass and keyboards feature much less than on a usual Marilyn Manson release. Sonically the album is predominantly mid-tempo and is said to be Manson's most melodic work to date. Manson has since revealed that he sang most of the album laying down on the studio floor with his hands cupping the studio microphone, resulting in a very distinctive vocal sound.

== Promotion ==
On April 16, 2007, "[[If I Was Your Vampire]]" was made available for streaming on Marilyn Manson's newly created official MySpace account. Also revealed was the album's cover art that appeared in the player. Hours later the cover art was confirmed in an [[Interscope Records|Interscope]] press release sent to select music distributors.

On April 18, 2007 Marilyn Manson opened an official account on VampireFreaks.com, probably in order to promote the album's running "vampire" theme to a suitable community.

On May 18, 2007, the official booklet of ''Eat Me, Drink Me'' was posted on Marilyn Manson's official website in its entirety.

Recently, an official ''Eat Me, Drink Me'' [http://www.marilynmansonvault.com/ mini-site] was discovered through a link found in the Europe "[[Heart-Shaped Glasses (When the Heart Guides the Hand)]]" single. The site contains lyrics, an art gallery, a mosaic, and the ability to stream up to two tracks per day starting on May 28, 2007. Upon completion of the mosaic, an ''Eat Me, Drink Me'' wallpaper becomes available for download, and three preview tracks ("Heart-Shaped Glasses (When the Heart Guides the Hand)", "If I Was Your Vampire", and "[[Evidence]]") become available for streaming.

On [[2007/05/23 London, England|May 23, 2007]], [[Marilyn Manson]] and [[Tim Skold]] appeared on UK radio station ''Radio 1'' to discuss ''Eat Me, Drink Me'', and performed two acoustic songs; one a rendition of "Heart-Shaped Glasses (When the Heart Guides the Hand)" and the other a Justin Timberlake cover titled "[[What Goes Around... Comes Around]]".

On May 31, 2007, for a limited time the entire album was made available via MySpace.

Manson also appeared on the [[Video Interview:The Henry Rollins Show|Henry Rollins Show]] in April for additional promotion.

== Themes ==
According to Manson, vampirism is just one of the dark themes running through ''Eat Me, Drink Me''. "If I had to do a record review, I'd say it's got a cannibal, consumption, obsessive, violent-sex, romance angle, but with an upbeat swing to it." Aside from the obvious Lewis Carroll and Jesus Christ references, Manson says the album's title was also inspired by the story of Armin Meiwes, who placed an ad online for a person consenting to be eaten. "Although I can't relate to the relationship those two had, I found the story very compelling in a romantic way. I think a lot of people wouldn't look at it as romantic, but it was to them in some sick way, and it is to me in some sick way, too".

== Trivia ==
* A [[Hot Topic download card|download card]] was released with the album in Hot Topic stores in 2007, which allowed downloadable bonus tracks. Most of which were availible on the album's international versions and respective singles.
* When promotion for [[Lest We Forget – The Best Of|Lest We Forget]] concluded the band returned to the studio and recorded eight embryonic songs – some of which had vocals, and one notably a tribute to Andy Warhol. They were the starting stages for the recording of the album.
* Manson called this his most personal and important album in 2007, citing the relationships with Wood and Von Teese that were the foundation for most of the album's lyrics.
