The eighth studio album by Marilyn Manson entered the writing phase during The High End of Low Tour in 2009.[1] A release date has yet to be projected for the record, nor has its distrubutor been confirmed, since the band's contract with Interscope Records concluded in late 2009.[1] Citing his reconciliation with former girlfriend Evan Rachel Wood and split with Stoya, vocalist Marilyn Manson attests that lyrical content of the album will be "more romantic," yet "self-abusive."[1]

Background information

The prospect of an eighth studio album by Marilyn Manson was first confirmed by Manson himself in an interview with Metal Hammer on December 3, 2009.[1] Manson elaborated, "We've just been released from our record contract with Interscope so I think a lot of the creative control on which my hands were tied on a lot of choices – the music videos – things like that. And the first example is the newest video, they clearly wouldn't have allowed me to make that video. So we started writing new songs on the road – a bit like [David Bowie's album] 'Aladdin Sane' – I think people can expect a new record a lot sooner than we [expected]."[1]

Rumours

In January 2010, the rumoured album title Crimes In The Ocean started spreading, apparently originating from WikiPedia. This was inspired by Manson's official MySpace, where he updated his status to 'making crimes in the ocean'. Any proof of this being related to the album's title is missing, and taking in account the secrecy around previous album titles before being announced it is highly unlikely the title for this album has been released or referred to this early in it's recording process.

Personnel

The personnel for this album has not been confirmed yet. Based on the current live line-up the following band members are expected to contribute:
