Demo lyrics

he is the angel with the scabbed wings
hard-drug face, want to powder his nose
he will deflower the freshest crop
dry up all the wombs with his rock and roll sores

  rock and roll sores
  rock and roll sores

  dead is what he is
  he does what he please
  the things that he has
  you'll never want to see
what you're never gonna be now
  sketch a little keyhole
  for looking-glass people
you don't want to be him
you only want to see him
  mommy's got a scarecrow
  gotta let the corn grow
man can't always reap what he sow

  he is the maker
  he is the taker
  he is the saviour
  he is the raper

  dead is what he is
  he does what he please
  the things that he has
  you'll never want to see
what you're never gonna be now
  sketch a little keyhole
  for looking-glass people
you don't want to be him
you only want to see him
  mommy's got a scarecrow
  gotta let the corn grow
man can't always reap what he sow

  he is a
  she is a
  (?)
  you'll never want to see
what you're never gonna be now

  he is a
  (?)
  (?)
  you'll never want to see
what you're never gonna be now

  he is the maker
  he is the taker
  he is the saviour
  he is the raper

get back you're never gonna leave him
get back you're always gonna please him
get back you're never gonna leave him
get back you're always gonna please him

he is the angel with the scabbed wings
hard-drug face, want to powder his nose
he will deflower the freshest crop
dry up all the wombs with his rock and roll sores

  greater than god
  greater than god
  greater than god
  greater than god

  greater than god
  greater than god
  greater than god
  greater than god

get back you're never gonna leave him
get back you're always gonna please him
get back you're never gonna leave him
get back you're always gonna please him

Trivia

  • The song takes a play Galantians 6: 7-9: "7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. 9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not."
  • The song's mention of "looking-glass people" is likely a reference to the Lewis Carroll story Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There. Marilyn Manson later attempted to incorporate characters from this book, including Alice, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, into the film Phantasmagoria: The Visions of Lewis Carroll.
  • It is one of the few songs to be written in and recorded using the Eb Standard guitar tuning.
  • The song bears lyrical similarities, particularly the line "man can't always reap what he sow", to "Scapegoat", a track recorded originally during a rehearsal session sometime in late Autumn of 1993 and (for reasons unknown) shelved until the release of "The Spooky Kids' second remasters compilation".
