Typo fixes

Hi! Your contributions that fix the typos are impressive and all of them are now accepted. Thank you! scarshock (talk) 09:48, 27 March 2020 (CET)

Well, thank you. I'm regulating myself only to small things at the moment, until my account gets fixed up. 141.135.160.201 21:19, 27 March 2020 (CET)

Redesigning the song pages

Hi! I appreciate your edits but I don't think the articles have to be redesigned. Let me make a brief feedback on that:

  • MansonWiki articles style and site design
    • MansonWiki has its "style" for longer than a decade, and any significant changes should have to be discussed and approved first when these changes affect the design. Even the site design change rolled out for very long before it got finally released. But neither of our previous changes affected the page "style" except of their technical implementation that usually is hidden from the user. This covers both how the wiki looks like and how it's structured.
  • MediaWiki itself
    • MediaWiki, MansonWiki is built with, that is extremely hard for bulk edititing. I started dozen campaigns for doing technical (hidden from users) changes in the articles to improve them from the technical perspective, but it took too much personal time for just voluntary reasons.
  • "Guidelines" (as they are not established or appear somewhere on the wiki in lost pages I cannot recall or represent the estabished style at most pages)
    • Redundant linked pages specification is usually not recommended. Where: [[Portrait of an American Family (album)|Portrait of an American Family]] => [[Portrait of an American Family]]. Rationale: all articles that introduce disambiguation usually have the suffix explaining its "namespace" (like "(album)" here), but we assume that one "main" page always points to the main subject: "Portait of an American Family"'s main subject is the album, so we just have a redirect there.
    • Adding "too many" sections breaks adds the ToC to the top of the page (can be optionally disabled though). I'm not in favor of having too many sections on the page, however I'm fully fine with having the article structured (at least how it is now).
    • The "appearances" section is totally fine with having simple markup and brief information without any visual style. Moving that information to tables requires: getting rid of ad-hoc tables and their hardcoded styles in favor of MediaWiki templates (requires template specification and design, implementation, applying the templates, etc); putting too many columns and too much data in the tables while that information is already replicated across the wiki on their respective pages (this is what I don't like in MediaWiki: even small fixes may require editing all affected pages -- MediaWiki is not a knowledge database system per se and I don't think it worth mimicking it).
    • The "trivia" section is fine too as it features the information that usually does not belong to the "main" section.
    • MansonWiki uses quotes for song names everywhere, not italics.

What I really like:

  • Rewording/rephrasing English text. Where: It is one of the few music videos with Manson performing without wearing makeup. => It is one of the few music videos where Manson performs without wearing makeup.. Rationale: I'm not a native speaker and my English is far from being perfect, so I'm really happy when someone improves bad English in articles.
  • Fact-checking, typo fixes, fixing broken links , etc. Rationale: the wiki is not that easy to edit and maintain being just a volunteer.

Sorry I haven't covered all the aspects. Due to technical reasons I cannot preview pages before they get pre-moderated to see your design suggestion, so I had to approve your "Lunchbox" page changes first and then rollback them -- no worries, I do appreciate your work. Thank you for your suggestions and ideas and remember we're open for discussions! scarshock (talk) 11:36, 1 April 2020 (CEST)
