The seventh studio album by Marilyn Manson has been recorded in Hollywood following the band's Rape of the World tour, which ended on March 2, 2008.
Background information
Manson began to furnish two EAT ME, DRINK ME outtakes and completed one new song stating that “taking four years to release an album again is a mistake I don’t want to repeat in the future” but on January 9, 2008 - following the completion of the Rape Of The World tours European, Australiasian and American dates (with Slayer) but pending the stand alone leg of dates in America - Marilyn Manson’s official website communicated that Twiggy Ramirez and Manson were both “back together to finish where they left off” and that Skold had “amicably split with Manson”. The tour featured a guest appearance by Slayer’s Kerry King and Manson playing songs which had been off the setlist for the previous three world tours such as Mechanical Animals, Little Horn - and the first live performance of Holy Wood’s longest track Coma Black.
In a February 2008 interview with Steppin' Out, Manson described the music created for the new album as, "very ruthless, very heavy, and very violent."
In March 2008, a news blog on the official MySpace profile of Twiggy Ramirez's sideproject Goon Moon stated that "Jeordie is working on a new Marilyn Manson studio album". A week later Manson's MySpace profile was updated with a new banner, showing a spectral analysis of an audio track, possibly referring to the fact that they are indeed in the studio recording new tracks. In addition to this the track "The Fall of Adam" was added the the page's music player, which could be implying the return of the Celebritarian theme. Further clues to the album's theme have been hinted at on Ramirez's Myspace page such as a photo of a book about the Black Death, a clip of cats running about a large recording studio and Twiggy holding a portrait of Syd Barrett given to him by Manson's manager Tony Cilula.
According to Interscope and Kerrang's article, Manson's new album will be released in Winter 2008, and that Slayer's Kerry King and the Smashing Pumpkins' James Iha would still be making an appearance on the album, this information is, however, erreneous. Manson has a series of tour dates in Asia - which had been planned since late 2007 - that have effectively pushed the album's release back as initially a Fall 2007 release was planned. Lyrically Manson has returned to his mix of personal expression, social commentary and the exploration of eseoteric themes that marked his most successful albums.
