Valentine's Day is a holiday celebrated each year on February 14. It is the most significant and recurring day within Marilyn Manson's music and artwork. It's most obvious references are the song "Valentine's Day", featured on the 2000 album Holy Wood (In the Shadow of the Valley of Death), and a painting of the same name. Yet, there are several less obvious references in Manson's art, which are listed below.

February 14, 1997

According to their respective album credits, both 1996's "Irresponsible Hate Anthem" and 2000's "Born Again" were recorded on February 14, 1997. The former is especially curious, since it was released on an album which saw its official release over six months prior to this particular date.

It is often said that the song "I Want to Disappear" from 1998's Mechanical Animals was recorded on this date as well. This, however has never been officially confirmed by Manson himself.

Gifts

In the past Marilyn Manson has given his fans "gifts" of some form or another on Valentine's Day. The following events all occurred on February 14th, and unless stated otherwise, are allegedly official Valentine's Day gifts from Manson.

  • 1997: "Deformography" and the piano version of "Mister Superstar" were played live for the first time, in Dayton, Ohio. Also according to the Antichrist Superstar album credits during this show the song "Irresponsible Hate Anthem" was/would be recorded.
  • 1998: Manson's autobiography The Long Hard Road out of Hell was released.
  • 2000: A cover of Charles Manson's "Sick City" was released through a podcast via MarilynManson.com.
  • 2001: Chapter 10 of the as-of-yet unreleased Holy Wood novel was released through ThisAsValentinesDay.com.
  • 2002: Two videoclips entitled "I Love You With All of My Heart" and "I Will Love You Until I Die" respectively were released though MarilynManson.com. Both clips depicted Manson's cat Lily White.
  • 2003: The first picture of the band's new appearance during The Golden Age of Grotesque era were presented on the band's official website. The photo was accompanied by a short movie clip named "The Mechanism of Desire", which depicted the band's new look but also Manson's then fiancée Dita Von Teese.
  • 2005: The remake of the "The Nobodies" video that would accompany the 2005 re-release of the single was leaked on the Universal Music website. It remains unknown whether this was meant as a gift or if the leak was accidental.
  • 2006: The exclusive article on Manson and Von Teese's wedding in Vogue magazine was leaked. This too was possibly by accident rather than an official gift.
  • 2007: Although not a gift act toward fans in particular, Manson had a new tattoo depicting a spiral heart inked on his left wrist (pictured above) as a result of his relationship with current girlfriend Evan Rachel Wood.
  • 2008: Although this cannot be seen as an official Valentine's Day gift in any way, it is notable that on this date a revised version of the unofficial biography Dissecting Marilyn Manson was released, including the marriage and divorce of Manson and Dita Von Teese and other recent events.
