This page documents all songs that are often credited as performed by [[Marilyn Manson (band)|Marilyn Manson]], [[Marilyn Manson & the Spooky Kids]], or individual members of the band, but are actually performed by another band or artist. It should be noted that throughout Manson's career, very few songs that have not appeared on official releases are rarely, if ever leaked to the public and therefore most supposed "rare" songs from [[Marilyn Manson]] are generally publicity stunts by unrelated bands to spread their music to a wider audience and should be taken with the proverbial grain of salt.

== "Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2" ==
"Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2" is often credited as performed by [[Marilyn Manson (band)|Marilyn Manson]]. The song was in fact performed by a little-known supergroup called Class of '99, featuring vocals by Layne Staley of Alice in Chains and guitar by Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave fame. It is a cover, originally written and performed by Pink Floyd in 1979. The song can be found on the soundtrack for the film "The Faculty", featuring Salma Hayek.

== "Assassinate Me" ==
"Assassinate Me" is often credited as performed by [[Marilyn Manson (band)|Marilyn Manson]], although the song was in fact performed by Jesus on Extasy.

== "...Baby One More Time" ==
"...Baby One More Time" is often credited as performed live by [[Marilyn Manson (band)|Marilyn Manson]].The song was in fact performed by P.T. Grimm and the Dead Puppies, in the recording "...Baby One More Time" is immediately followed by chaste makes waste, which is off the second P.T. Grimm album. It is a cover, originally written by Max Martin and performed by Britney Spears in 1999.

"Believe" is often credited as performed by [[Marilyn Manson (band)|Marilyn Manson]] during ''[[The Golden Age of Grotesque]]'' recording sessions. The song was in fact performed solely by [[Tim Skold]], and was intended for his second solo album, which was never released. The song is legitimately part of Skold's ''Dead God EP'' (albeit a bootleg, seeing as how the album was not released).

It is attributed as a score for the unreleased film ''Suicide Is Beautiful'', despite it being confirmed that ''Suicide Is Beautiful'' was never even a potential film, released or not.

"Blue Monday" is often credited as performed by [[Marilyn Manson (band)|Marilyn Manson]], although the song was in fact performed by industrial rock band Orgy. It is a cover, originally written and performed by New Order in 1983.

The song was in fact performed solely by [[Tim Skold]], and was part of a collection of unreleased, and incomplete tracks intended for use in video games, commercials and promotion.

"Dancing With My Heart" which was supposedly a new song from Born Villain uploaded to youtube in 2011. But it was in fact performed by Gabriel Cyhre from an album named Mr. Dangerous.
== "Dead God" ==
"Dead God" is often credited as performed by [[Marilyn Manson (band)|Marilyn Manson]] during ''[[The Golden Age of Grotesque]]'' recording sessions. The song was in fact performed solely by [[Tim Skold]], and was intended for his second solo album, which was never released. The song is legitimately part of Skold's ''[[Dead God EP]]'' (albeit a bootleg, seeing as how the album was not released).

== "Dirty Like Angel" ==
"Dirty Like Angel" is a video uploaded to YouTube with the use of "The Nobodies" music video. It is credited to be Marilyn Manson but actually performed by a Ukrainian band Skryabin featuring Yuliya Lord.

== "Don't Pray for Me" ==
"Don't Pray for Me" is often credited as performed by [[Marilyn Manson (band)|Marilyn Manson]] during the recording sessions of ''The Golden Age of Grotesque'' (2003) and the ''[[The High End of Low]]'' (2009). The song was in fact performed solely by [[Tim Skold]], and was part of a collection of unreleased, and incomplete tracks intended for use in video games, commercials and promotion.

== "Every Day is Halloween" ==
On November 15, 2010, an alleged cover of "(Everyday Is) Halloween" (originally by Ministry) was [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0x8SlZ0Htg&feature=player_embedded uploaded to YouTube]. The comment stated it was an unreleased and abandoned project recorded by Marilyn Manson in September 2010. However, soon it became apparent that the song was in fact performed by a band called Endless Sunder, a video of which can be found [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QV7CmFQyHaU here].

== "Every Time" ==
"Every Time" is often credited as performed live by [[Marilyn Manson & the Spooky Kids]]. The song was in fact performed by the late-90s Gothic Metal band Bitches On Acid and mislabeled on Limewire. It is legitimately titled "The Force Behind the Wall", and various remixes have been released over the years by the original artist.

== "Forbidden Fruit" ==
"Forbidden Fruit" is often credited as performed by [[Marilyn Manson (band)|Marilyn Manson]] during ''[[Antichrist Superstar]]'' recording sessions. The song was in fact performed by Christian rock band Rackets and Drapes. It is legitimately titled "Rotten Apples".

== "Genie in a Bottle" ==
That song has been on YouTube and some speculation has been made whether this was Manson or not performing this song. But this song was actually a Christina Aguilera cover song made by Dr Melancholia which is an Hungarian industrial metal band. The voice may sound like its him, but there's no record of Marilyn Manson releasing that song. And if he would have, it would've been much better mixing quality.

== "God Bless Us" ==
"God Bless Us" was thought to have been recorded by [[Marilyn Manson (band)|Marilyn Manson]] during the [[Eat Me, Drink Me]] recording sessions. The song has been revealed to have not been recorded by the band at all, however, the origin of the recording is performed by Killus.

== "I Hate" ==
"I Hate" is often credited as performed by [[Marilyn Manson (band)|Marilyn Manson]] during ''The Golden Age of Grotesque'' recording sessions. The song was in fact performed solely by [[Tim Skold]], and was part of a collection of unreleased, and incomplete tracks intended for use in video games, commercials and promotion.

== "Intro" ==
"Intro" is often credited as the intro for "[[Eat Me, Drink Me]]." The song first surfaced around the same time as "The Point", which was also credited as an ''Eat Me, Drink Me'' track. "Intro" is mostly piano and sounds similar to the first and last tracks of ''[[The Golden Age of Grotesque]]''. Some people believe it is actually a [[Nine Inch Nails]] track, but this remains unproven.

== "Justify My Love" ==
"[[Justify My Love]]" is often credited as performed by [[Marilyn Manson & the Spooky Kids]] during ''[[The Beaver Meat Cleaver Beat]]'' recording sessions. The song was in fact performed by [[Satan on Fire]], a side project featuring band members [[Marilyn Manson]] and [[Twiggy Ramirez]]. It is a cover, originally written by Lenny Kravitz, Ingrid Chavez and Madonna and performed by Madonna in 1990.

== "Keep Looking for Secrets" ==
"Keep Looking for Secrets" is often credited as performed by [[Madonna Wayne Gacy]]'s side project, Dark Edges, although in reality no such project existed and the true performers of the song have not been discovered.

== "Kill House" ==
"Kill House" is often credited as performed by [[Marilyn Manson (band)|Marilyn Manson]], although the true performers of the song have not been discovered. It is attributed as a score for the unreleased film ''Suicide Is Beautiful'', despite it being confirmed that ''Suicide Is Beautiful'' was never even a potential film, released or not.

== "Like a Virgin" ==
"Like a Virgin" is often credited as performed by [[Marilyn Manson (band)|Marilyn Manson]] and [[Trent Reznor]] during the ''[[Portrait of an American Family]]'' recording sessions, although the true performers of the song have not been discovered. It is a cover, originally written by Tom Kelly and Billy Steinberg and performed by Madonna in 1984.

The composition samples dialogue from the films ''[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hellraiser Hellraiser]'' (1987) and ''[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reservoir_Dogs Reservoir Dogs]'' (1993), and from "[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sugar_%26_Spice_%28Picket_Fences%29 Sugar & Spice]" (1993), the 21st episode of the first season of television series ''Picket Fences''.

In the absence of evidence indicating a commercial release, it seems likely the song was originally distributed online without charge, possibly via peer-to-peer filesharing networks, and that it was perhaps spuriously attributed to Marilyn Manson and/or Trent Reznor by its original uploader (and likely author).

The song's true creator(s) has not publicly and verifiably claimed credit, perhaps in order to avoid potential legal action if, as seems probable, the cover was not authorized by those who control copyright to the original composition of "Like a Virgin".

Internet references to a "Like a Virgin" cover attributed to Marilyn Manson which date from at least [https://web.archive.org/web/20030221050911/http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/marilynmanson/likeavirgin.html 21 February 2003] appear to confirm the piece has been circulating since at least that time, but the original dates of creation and release remain difficult to confirm: before that, the song was released on CD in 2001's bootleg ''[[At Satan's Request]]''. Knowledge of the earliest-known instance's file format and non-null metadata (if any) could help to further specify its provenance.

Anecdotally it has been seen first as an MP3 on the now defuct file sharing program Napster.

"Lithium" is a song credited as performed by [[Marilyn Manson (band)|Marilyn Manson]]. The song was in fact performed live by Papa Roach on [[2000/12/31 New York City, NY|December 31st, 2000]]. It is a cover, originally written and performed by Nirvana in 1991.

== "Make Way for the Knife" ==
"Make Way for the Knife" is a song that was credited to [[Marilyn Manson (band)|Marilyn Manson]] as being a track from [[The High End of Low]]. It was uploaded in a video on [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dFX_K3AGT8 Youtube] with fanmade artwork and being credited to Manson a week before the album's release. The song's real origins of surfacing or real artist remain unknown, some archive sources [http://www.providermodule.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-1896.html refer] Jasper McAdams or "Knife" Sotelo as the author though.


December 2016, the song was [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUZ6xYD_gfU reuploaded] on a Youtube channel which claims that "Jasper McAdams commented on this video (the comments was later deleted) and said that he is the author of "Make Way For The Knife". Few month after, Jasper McAdams made a song called "[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DkQhfRmw53M Monarch Mahyem (Rev.12)]", which he [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=valKtItDqG0 uploaded on another channel] and credited to Marilyn Manson in a similar manner to "Make Way for the Knife".

"Master of Puppets" is a song credited as performed by [[Marilyn Manson (band)|Marilyn Manson]], although the true performers of the song are Metallica.

== "Mr. Dangerous" ==
"Mr. Dangerous" was uploaded to youtube with the title of Dancing With My Heart which was supposed to be a Born Villain song. But Is really performed by Gabriel Cyphre from and album titled Mr. Dangerous
== "My Girlfriend's Girlfriend" ==
"My Girlfriend's Girlfriend" is often credited as performed by [[Marilyn Manson (band)|Marilyn Manson]], although the true performers of the song are actually Type O Negative, as the song's tempo was increased to make it similar to a Marilyn Manson recording. The song was originally written and performed by Type O Negative in 1996 for their album ''October Rust''.

== "Necrosexual" ==
"Necrosexual" is often credited as performed by Marilyn Manson, although the true performers of the song have not been discovered.

== "Personal Jesus" ==
The original song was performed by Depeche Mode and Gravity Kills made two covers of it, the one is called Gravity Kills - Personal Jesus (Original Demo) is the one people think was made by Manson. This version was released in 2002. However Marilyn Manson did record a cover of the song. It was released as a [[Personal Jesus (single)|single]] in October 2004 and is featured on his greatest hits album ''[[Lest We Forget – The Best Of]]''.

== "Plastic Jesus" ==
"Plastic Jesus" is sometimes credited as performed by [[Marilyn Manson (band)|Marilyn Manson]], and sometimes as a System of a Down track. The song is often attributed as a track from the 2001 bootleg ''[[From Highway to Hell (The Ultimate Cover Collection)|From Highway to Hell]]'', despite that the song is absent from its track listing. The song was originally written and performed by Ed Rush and George Cromarty in 1957 and 1962 respectively.

== "Sleepy Hollow" ==

The song is actually performed by Deadsy, and features a guest appearance by Korn's [[Jonathan Davis]]. Sleepy Hollow was released on [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deadsy_(album) Deadsy's 1997 Self- Titled debut].

== "Temptation" ==
There are two separate songs referred to as "Temptation", falsely accredited to Marilyn Manson. The first is an audio track that was uploaded to YouTube on August 19, 2010 with the title [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZ0dR0OOEG4 "Marilyn Manson - Temptation"]. The original performer of this track is Emigrate.

The second version stems from an audio clip uploaded to YouTube on April 3, 2011 with the name [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ILBZb-e9Fc "samples of new marilyn manson album"], one of which according to the uploader is supposed to be called temptation. The three samples however were taken from the tracks "Robot Nation" (two samples) and "Original Synapse" by glamrock band Arockalypse and the Amazing Trans-Metropolitans, of their 2004 album ''The Ark'' [http://www.arockalypse.com/].

== "Terrible Lie" ==
"Terrible Lie" is often credited as performed acoustic by [[Marilyn Manson (band)|Marilyn Manson]]. The song was in fact performed by Spooks Illustrated. It is a cover, originally written and performed by [[Nine Inch Nails]] in 1989.

== The High End of Low.avi ==
The High End of Low.avi was spread on several filesharing websites in March of 2009. It consists only of an audio track, which plays the same sound that is heard during the splash page of [[MarilynManson.com]] on loop for 10 minutes.

== "Twisted Transistor" ==
"Twisted Transistor" is often credited as performed by [[Marilyn Manson (band)|Marilyn Manson]]. However, despite similarities in sound, it's actually performed by KoRn.

== "The Point" ==
"The Point" is often credited as performed by [[Marilyn Manson (band)|Marilyn Manson]] during ''[[The Golden Age of Grotesque]]'' recording sessions. The song was in fact performed solely by [[Tim Skold]], and was part of a collection of unreleased, and incomplete tracks intended for use in video games, commercials and promotion.

== "Third Nostril" ==
"Third Nostril" is often credited as performed by [[Marilyn Manson (band)|Marilyn Manson]] during ''[[The Golden Age of Grotesque]]'' recording sessions. The song is in fact an unknown instrumental electronic track with some speech samples and has nothing to do with [[Marilyn Manson]]. The title originates from an interview given by Marilyn Manson before the release of ''The Golden Age of Grotesque'', in which he mentioned a possible track on that album with the same title. It is generally assumed the mentioned song became the album's [[The Golden Age of Grotesque (song)|title track]], in which the words "third nostril" still appear.

== "Worlock" ==
"Worlock" is often credited to [[Marilyn Manson (band)|Marilyn Manson]] as a collaboration of [[Trent Reznor]]'s ''Tapeworm'' project. It is actually a song by industrial band Skinny Puppy from their 1989 album ''Rabies''.

== "You Spin Me 'Round (Like a Record)" ==
"You Spin Me 'Round (Like a Record)" is often credited as performed by [[Marilyn Manson (band)|Marilyn Manson]] during the ''[[Portrait of an American Family]]'' recording sessions. The song was in fact performed by industrial rock band Dope. It is a cover, originally written and performed by Dead or Alive in 1984. This song is perhaps the most misinterpreted track by the band, as it is the fake track most alluded to or mentioned.
