The cover of the promotional single of Heart-Shaped Glasses

"Heart-Shaped Glasses (When The Heart Guides The Hand)" is the sixth track on the 2007 release Eat Me, Drink Me and the first single.

The single will see release in Germany on May 25 according to Manson's offical German website, which implies a wider European release date of May 28/29.

Music details

Repetitive and dancey. Skold juxtaposes his bass against Manson’s voice. A natural choice for first single. Features unusual percussion in the form of a toybox and chime bells.

Trivia

According to Sean Beavan Manson initially wanted Putting Holes in Happiness to be the first single though the record company decided that Heart-Shaped Glasses was a more natural choice due to it's radio friendly nature. It is likely that Manson's choice will see release as the second single later in 2007.

Manson wrote Heart-Shaped Glasses after 19-year old girlfriend Evan Rachel Wood came to his house wearing heart-shaped glasses like Sue Lyon in the Stanley Kubrick version of Lolita.

Lyrics

    She reminds me of
    The one in school
    When I was cutting
    She was dressed in white
And I couldn't take my eyes off her
But that's not what I took off that night

And she will never cover up
    What we did
    With a dress
    No
    She said
"Kiss me, it will heal but it won't forget"

    And I don't mind you
    Keeping me
    On pins and needles
If I could stick to you
    And you could
    Stick me too

    Don't break, don’t break
    My heart
    And I won't break your
    Heart-shaped glasses
    Little girl, little girl
    You should close your eyes
That blue is getting me high
    Making me low

She reminds of the one I knew
    That cut up the negatives
    Of my life
I couldn’t to take my hands off her
    She wouldn't let me be
    Anywhere but inside

    And I don't mind you
    Keeping me
    On pins and needles
If I could stick to you
    And you could
    Stick me too

    Just
    Don't break, don’t break
    My heart
    And I won't break your
    Heart-shaped glasses
    Little girl, little girl
    You should close your eyes
That blue is getting me high
    Making me low

And she will never cover up
    What we did
    With a dress
    No
    She said
"Kiss me, it will heal but it won't forget"

    And I don't mind you
    Keeping me
    On pins and needles
If I could stick to you
    And you could
    Stick me too

    Don't break, don’t break
    My heart
    And I won't break your
    Heart-shaped glasses
    Little girl, little girl
