"Breaking the Same Old Ground" is the thirteenth track on the 2012 release Born Villain. The title of the song was revealed in the March 2012 issue of Revolver magazine.[1] The song mentions how Manson feels he keeps coming back to familiar ground, performing the same show and doing the same things over and over again and that it's too late to change it. Like many of the songs on Born Villain, the ending becomes triumphant, with Manson declaring that nothing except death itself owns him, and he welcomes that nothingness.

Music Details

Running with the theme of retreading old ground again and again and being stuck there, the song sounds eerily similar to the song The Nobodies and Coma Black. Whether this was intentional or by coincidence has not yet been confirmed.

Lyrics

And then I found how to be what you want
when I was out looking for something new

    Digging too deep
    and now it's too late
    we just keep on
    breaking the same old ground

So you think that I asked for this
    well, let me show you
what I think of your lips
And you think that I asked for this
    come on,
    use your fist

And then I found how to be what you want
when I was out looking for something new

    Digging too deep
    and now it's too late
    we just keep on
    breaking the same old ground

So you think that I asked for this
    well, let me show you
what I think of your lips
And you think that I asked for this
    come on,
    use your fist

When I found how to be what you want
I was out looking for something new
    digging too deep
    now it's too late
    we just keep on
    breaking the same old ground
    breaking the same old ground
    shhhhhh…
    shhhhhh…

    I am owned by death
    and
    I'm in love with oblivion

    I am owned by death
    and
    I'm in love with oblivion
