(TBA)

The eighth studio album by Marilyn Manson entered the writing phase during The High End of Low Tour in 2009.[1] A release date has yet to be projected, and the record's distributor has yet to be confirmed, as the band's contract with Interscope Records concluded in late 2009.[1] Citing his reconciliation with former girlfriend Evan Rachel Wood and split with Stoya, vocalist Marilyn Manson attests that lyrical content of the album will be "more romantic," yet "self-abusive."[1]

Background information

The prospect of an eighth studio album by Marilyn Manson was first confirmed by Manson himself in an interview with Metal Hammer on December 3, 2009.[1] Manson elaborated, "We've just been released from our record contract with Interscope so I think a lot of the creative control on which my hands were tied on a lot of choices – the music videos – things like that. And the first example is the newest video, they clearly wouldn't have allowed me to make that video. So we started writing new songs on the road – a bit like [David Bowie's album] 'Aladdin Sane' – I think people can expect a new record a lot sooner than we [expected]."[1] According to Chris Vrenna, as of January 2010, the band is "just talking and coming up with concepts" for the album.[2] On January 24, 2010, Manson confirmed on the band's official MySpace profile that "the new album is officially in motion."[3]

In April 2010, Manson confirmed during his appearance at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards that the band has recorded 13 songs,[4] one of which failed to appear in a television series about vampires.[4] Manson also referred to the album as "very death metal," and voiced interest in releasing the album differently than previous Marilyn Manson records.[4] To further state the musical direction, Manson also described that Twiggy was influenced after seeing some metal concerts last year at various times and at being on the Mayhem Festival. Manson also referenced still being friends with Slayer and also cited them vaguely as an influence on the record. Manson also dubbed the genre of the album as "suicide death metal".[5]
