The eighth studio album by Marilyn Manson entered the writing phase during The High End of Low Tour in 2009.[1] A release date has yet to be projected, and the record's distributor has yet to be confirmed, as the band's contract with Interscope Records concluded in late 2009.[1] Citing his reconciliation with former girlfriend Evan Rachel Wood and split with Stoya, vocalist Marilyn Manson attests that lyrical content of the album will be "more romantic," yet "self-abusive."[1]

Background information

The prospect of an eighth studio album by Marilyn Manson was first confirmed by Manson himself in an interview with Metal Hammer on December 3, 2009.[1] Manson elaborated, "We've just been released from our record contract with Interscope so I think a lot of the creative control on which my hands were tied on a lot of choices – the music videos – things like that. And the first example is the newest video, they clearly wouldn't have allowed me to make that video. So we started writing new songs on the road – a bit like [David Bowie's album] 'Aladdin Sane' – I think people can expect a new record a lot sooner than we [expected]."[1]

Crimes in the Ocean rumor

In January 2010, Marilyn Manson's official MySpace profile was updated with the status "making crimes in the ocean," inspiring opinion on the Internet that the forthcoming album made by the band will be titled Crimes in the Ocean. This belief is unsubstantiated and unlikely, considering how long the band's past production phases have lasted before the titles of their projects have been revealed.

Personnel

The personnel for this album has not been confirmed yet. Based on the current live line-up the following band members are expected to contribute:
