About

Marilyn Manson during the A Night of Nothing showcase performance.

The performance on September 5th, 1996 took place at Irving Plaza in New York City, New York, USA. The show was part of Nothing Records' showcase "A Night of Nothing" headlining Nine Inch Nails. It marked the band's first performances of "Kinderfeld" and "1996", just a month before official release on the band's 1996 album Antichrist Superstar. It was also the first show featuring guitarist Zim Zum, replacing Daisy Berkowitz.

The show was cut off towards the end of "1996", due to Manson's microphone stand hitting drummer Ginger Fish in the head, knocking him out.

Manson describes the event in his autobiography The Long Hard Road Out of Hell: "None of us wanted to play this Nothing Records showcase in the first place, and now I've inadvertently injured my drummer, nailing him with a microphone stand and landing him in the hospital. We wanted to do a Marilyn Manson show to kick off the tour for Antichrist Superstar, but this turned into some sort of strange ego trip which I'm sure was just to make us look foolish. I'm going to go to sleep now and pretend this didn't happen. This wasn't the beginning of the tour, it was one last favor."

Trivia

  • After the show Trent Reznor thanked all the supporting acts except for Marilyn Manson, although he did state that Ginger Fish was alright.
  • Although many sources and bootlegs state the performance took place on September 6th or 7th, the show really took place on September 5. This was confirmed by several sources, among which are the official Irving Plaza homepage and a fan review of the evening.
